Can a substrate made of roofing felt under elevated terrace emit unpleasant and hazardous odors at higher temperatures?

Based on our experience from thousands of completed projects, we have never encountered users complaining about such odors. The main reason why such a situation should not occur is that the roofing felt is not directly exposed to the sun but is located beneath the terrace, shielded by pavers or boards, which prevents it from reaching very high temperatures. Furthermore, it is important that the roofing felt on which the terrace pedestals will be placed is a top-covering felt without exposed asphalt adhesive, which could emit an unpleasant odor. Any doubts regarding the use of roofing felt as a substrate for an elevated terrace should be consulted with the roofing felt supplier.
